Group of young, educated people - usually coming of their own job search, which apparently qualifies as experience in the employment space - come up with an idea to “make things better.” They throw together a progressive, technology-based business that ultimately appeals to a very limited number of people (those who are pretty risk averse to begin with).

The press writes about them and the bees buzz for awhile, but after about 6 mos. things hit a wall of resistance known as the “HR decision maker.”

Enough of that, they’re on to their next project, typically involving consumers or targeting businesses that might actually make some money off a new product. And as long as HR is viewed as a perpetual money suck within corporations, this picture won’t change.

Think Jobster, Notch Up, Standout Jobs and any number of others throughout the years …

Who’s the start-up? They don’t like to be pigeon-holed or pushed out on a limb of specialization — with the inherent danger of a whimsical corporation sawing that limb off behind them during the next restructuring. One of their highest priorities is keeping their options open and their skills diverse — to be as self-reliant as possible.”

mothernaturenetwork:

Here's Who's Buying Monster

Wall Street was buzzing last week on rumors that LinkedIn (LNKD) was in talks to acquire Monster (MWW). According to a Reuters story,

LinkedIn Corp and private equity firm Silver Lake Partners are among a number of parties that have expressed interest in a potential deal for Monster Worldwide Inc, according to people familiar with the matter, as the Internet jobs-search company is preparing data for potential buyers.

The stock shot up on the hype. However, Business Insider and a few others quickly squashed the report as bunk, accusing Monster of desperately trying to stir-up interest.

The thought of a high-growth business like LinkedIn strapping on an albatross like Monster is a bit ridiculous if you think about it for a second. So who, one like me must ask, would buy Monster?
